Dark Star by John Carpenter.

Rapier like, sombre, black humour, as a group of miserable workers, aboard a ship sent to destroy unstable planets, work their way through mishaps and mayhem until finally, in a spectacular finale, the ends all tie together and hit you with such a philosophical punch, with its low-key, stunning humour, that you'll love this film for life. A low-budget classic with one of the most memorable climaxes. Buy this now or don't come to this site again.

Waking Life starring Ethan Hawke.

Waking Life takes the history of philosophy and a patchwork of thought provoking material from just beneath the surface of daily life, sends it at you at the speed of a Matrix kung-fu injection, and spins it around the dying hours, or is that moments?, of a guy who meets many a weird and wonderful stranger. The cartoon like effects, that change with every scene, help give it the required surreal flavour. Philosophical issues are given new life, as they are played out by various odd and interesting characters in dream like sequences. Both funny and educational, with a clever and stunning climax that many people won't even notice.

Dreamscape starring Dennis Quaid.

You've seen 2 of my favourite films. This is the third. There are few films I can watch over and over again, but occasionally I have to pull this dusty VHS off the shelf and give it a play. I think the special effects are better than many of the high budget 3D rendered efforts of today, for their uncanny ability to send you straight into the surreal world of dreams. The whole film has a pace and a plot that's captivating to the very end. They manage to create a convincing, realistic scenario, where those with some degree of psychic power can, with the aid of science, be linked into the dreams of others. The fun starts from there.

It even has kung-fu scenes. Bonus!
